» Detailed temporal annotations of animal sounds are now supported on Xeno-canto, enabling contributors to go beyond uploading recordings and begin marking precisely when species vocalize within an audio file. These fine-grained annotations create richer datasets that are valuable for many downstream applications, including biodiversity monitoring, behavioural studies, and the development of more accurate and robust machine learning models for species recognition. In this live demonstration, we will learn how to upload recordings to Xeno-canto and how to create detailed annotations directly in the browser using a browser-based tool called Spectrolipi. The session will highlight how this lightweight workflow makes contributing high-quality annotated data accessible to volunteers.
